In AAC play, the Temple Owls traveled up to Hartford, Connecticut to take on the UConn Huskies. The Owls came into tonight’s game with a six game losing streak and was looking to get their first victory in conference play.
Sadly, that would not happen, as the UConn Huskies would dominate and defeat the Owls 90-66. UConn was very efficient on the offensive end shooting 53 percent from the field and 52 percent from the three point line.
For UConn, Shabazz Napier and DeAndre Daniels led the way in scoring. Napier, who will be a first round pick in the 2014 NBA Draft scored 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists. Napier was on his way to a triple-double.
His teammate, junior DeAndre Daniels had a double-double consisting of 31 points and 12 rebounds. Seven of those rebounds came on the defensive glass. That was really all the offense UConn would need as they would coast to a victory.
For Temple, they looked better today but still have problems. From the field, the Owls shot 38 percent and from three point range they shot 21 percent.
For tonight’s game, the Owls got back guard Will Cummings who scored 20 points in his return. With Cummings’ return, freshman guard Josh Brown was coming off the bench. Brown only had four points tonight.
Cummings’ backcourt mate Quenton DeCosey scored 12 points but had a horrendous night shooting the ball. Finally, forward Anthony Lee scored 14 points but was held to zero rebounds.
The Temple Owls are now 5-12 on the season and 0-6 in AAC play. The next time they play will be on January 26th at the Liacouras Center where they will take on the 15th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats.
