Shane Roller Rallies Back to Stop Tavares at UFC on Versus

UFC Lightweight Fight
Shane Roller(10-3) KO RD 2 Thiago Tavares (19-4-1)
Time of Knockout: 1:28 RD 2

Tavares is one of the UFC’s brightest young talents and in the early in the fight you could see why.  In the opening round Tavares simply out gunned an aggressive Roller.  While many figured that Roller would take the fight to the ground where his wrestling skills would give him an advantage, Roller eschewed that plan and instead opted to keep the fight on the feet.  Tavares looked like he was going to continue dominating in the second round but a concussive straight right hand from Roller ruined Tavares night.  After setting up Tavares with a double jab, Roller unleashed a right hand that connected on the chin of Tavares who was knocked flat on his back.  Roller jumped on his downed opponent to land a couple more shots for good measure until the referee mercifully waived a halt to the bout.

Shane Roller’s UFC debut turned out to be extremely lucrative as he pocketed an extra $40,000 for winning “Knockout of the Night” honors for his one-punch come-from-behind knockout of Thiago Tavares.
