In this week’s edition of “Share Your Seminole Story”, we asked our readers to tell us the best FSU home game they ever witnessed in person.
From the Staff
This wasn’t an easy one to pick. Watching Al Thornton will the Seminoles to an upset over No. 1 Florida on the hardwood in 2006 was certainly memorable and watching the baseball team notch a spot in the College World Series was also incredible, but the best Florida State home game I witnessed in person would have to be the 2003 football contest against N.C. State.
With an ACC title on the line, the teams went back and forth and eventually into overtime after Xavier Beitia’s field goal attempt was blocked on the final play of regulation. After the teams traded touchdowns on the first possession of overtime, the Seminoles stopped the Wolfpack on downs as Philip Rivers’ pass went off the hands of Jericho Cotchery.
It took Florida State just two plays in the extra period to reach the end zone as Leon Washington outran defenders to the outside and the ‘Noles won 50-44 to notch their 11th ACC title in 12 years. Florida State would go on to beat Florida the following week and finish the season ranked in the top 10.

I have been attending FSU games since 1993 and while there are many moments I can remember live such as Roscoe Parrish getting laid out directly in front of me in 2003 as well as the Virginia game where (Chris) Weinke was injured in 1998 as well as all of the ones I attended while a student between 2002-04, but I think the one moment I may have enjoyed the most live was in 2010 — Jimbo’s first year as head coach. We were tied with Clemson at the end of the game and it had been hit or miss with them during the previous few years. We really needed the win after losing to UNC the week before at home if we wanted to make our first ACC championship game in five years. I remember Dustin Hopkins running out on to the field with just seconds left to nail a 55-yard field goal as time expired. For me, that was one of the better moments I have seen live. Beating Florida two weeks later was pretty awesome too. See ya Urban Meyer. Go ‘Noles.

Nothing like snapping a 6-game losing streak to your rival to begin your college experience.

@Noled_Out FSU vs UNC basketball 2012. Unbelievable energy. Unranked FSU blew #3 North Carolina out of the water. Rushed the court!!
