Share Your Seminole Story: When Your Significant Other Found Out You’re a Diehard ‘Nole

In this week’s installment of “Share Your Seminole Story”, we asked our fans and readers if they had a funny story when their significant other or spouse first found out what a diehard Florida State fan they are.

From the Staff
When my now wife first found out what a diehard Florida State fan I was had to be when I took her to her first game. It was 2009 — my first season since graduation. As a graduation present, my friend gave me season tickets.

After going to the heartbreaking Labor Day game against Miami, my friend decided not to go to the game five days later against Jacksonville State, so I decided to take the girlfriend. Jacksonville State, an easy win right? Not so much.

We ended up pulling it out 19-9 with two touchdowns in the final 35 seconds, but Florida State was trailing 9-7 in the third quarter and Jacksonville State quarterback Ryan Perrilloux ends up basically spiking the ball under pressure 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage. I wanted an intentional grounding call and none came so I threw my hat about 20 rows and demanded for the officials to “throw the f***ing flag”.

I was slightly embarrassed so I went down and picked up my hat and apologized to the people who it landed near. The officials gathered together and you know what happened? They threw the flag. Fortunately for me, the lady is still around. We’ll celebrate our fifth anniversary in July.

A personal Sod Cemetery? Sort of.

Turns out the boyfriend was an Ohio State fan and the game was the Sugar Bowl following the 1997 season. ‘Noles rolled 31-14.

There’s more.

Sounds like a deal-breaker.

Jet-lag wasn’t her biggest issue it turns out.

It’s good to let her know your terms and conditions early.
