The Brewers swept the Giants on Sunday with a 7-0 win behind Ben Sheets’ second career shutout. The only other shutout of Sheets’ career came on May 29, 2001, against the Cardinals. Sheets struck out eight batters, walked none and allowed only five hits to extend his scoreless-innings streak to 15 1/3 to start the 2008 season. Today was as good as I’ve seen Sheets look since Opening Day 2007 against the Dodgers. You can definitely tell it’s a contract year for him.
Gabe Kapler continued his hot start after not playing in 2007. Kapler went 2-4 with two RBI and homered in his second straight game. He also stole his first base of the season.
Ryan Braun appears to be warming up and getting settled in at the four hole. Braunie went 3-5 with three RBI and scored a run. Braun hit his second homer of the season as well.
Corey Hart had two hits on the day and scored two runs. He stole his third base of the season and looks like he is continuing to evolve as a 5-tool player.
For those wondering, Prince Fielder still has not hit a home run this year. Rumor has it that Saz’s in Milwaukee will be sending over some ribs and steak to Miller Park prior to Tuesday’s game.
The Brewers improved to 5-1 on the young season and now host the Cincinnati Reds starting Tuesday night.
