Shelby Says…Column Two

Shelby Says...Column Two

Scary image, eh? Thanks to Jerry at Buffalo Observer for creating this swanky thing for my column!

All right, onto see how how my predictions panned out from this past week.

So Drew Miller actually did play last Friday night and a goal bounced off his shoulder into the net. Funny how things work out like that. All in all, Friday’s game was horrendous. If you compare it to last night’s game, it is pretty much the same deal. The Red Wings and Flyers are both extremely strong teams; the Red Wings having been one of the best organizations in the past decade at least and the Flyers being the best team on the road. On Friday, the Wings were skating circles around the Sabres. The rookies looked like they were scared (as they should be), but so were the veterans! It was just a whole lot of ugly and disgusting all around. I saw a few people blaming Enroth for Friday’s loss but pfft. Maybe if the forwards could learn how to score instead of constantly be streaky…I also said Vanek and Leino would score in this game. Excuse me while I laugh. I was wrong about that too and the final score.

Now Saturday’s game against the Predators, I was correct with the Predators wearing their new thirds! I think that they work on the ice. I like them. Someone did get hurt (Gaustad) but not due to a shot and the Sabres ended up winning when I thought they would lose. What I liked about Saturday’s game was the tenacity of the rookies all night long. I just think we should send all the veterans to Rochester and keep all the rookies since they seem to be playing a hell of a lot better. Tootoo was suspended for what happened with Miller so it was nice to see the league take action unlike that other incident which shall remain nameless.

Yesterday’s crapfest: I said Leino would score and he did indeed. Briere was held pointless but the Sabres let Giroux get four points that included the game winner which you CANNOT do with one of the best in the game. That is disgusting. What’s more disgusting is we blew a 3-0 lead which we should all be used to by now and another player went flying into Miller. Unfortunately, I might start using a stopwatch to see how long it takes for the other team to run our goaltender. If I can quote Lindy “It’s a joke.” Leino is having a hearing on an elbow he laid out on Matt Read while Gerbe gets hurt and nothing is happening with that. The inconsistancy is brutal this year. Whatever.

Predictions for next week:

Friday December 9th Panthers @ Sabres:

-Sabres wear their thirds tonight. (I’m making this prediction without reading the schedule for their thirds, shhh.)

-Brian Campbell gets a goal on the power play.

-Brayden McNabb gets his first professional goal since he was super close last night versus the Flyers.

-No Sabres get hurt during this game but a Panther does.

-Sabres are going to win this close one, 3-2.

Saturday December 10th Rangers @ Sabres:

-Enroth starts between the pipes and faces an old friend in Martin Biron, who in fact doesn’t know who the hell Enroth is. But it’s okay.

-Vanek pots two goals and an assist.

-Leopold will be back for this game and play nearly 30 minutes.

-Sean Avery will try to fight someone and it won’t work as usual.

-The Rangers will come away with the win, 5-3.

Tuesday December 13th Senators @ Sabres:

-Isn’t it nice that at least we can beat THESE guys? We’ll beat them again. I don’t care how, we just will.

-Miller will make a mindblowing save in the second period when Alfredsson flies in on a breakaway. Miller then spits on the ice.

-Roy will score at least one goal and continue to make everyone in Ottawa besides his own family hate him.

-The game will be a blowout.

-Gaustad will be back for this game.
