In a split second, Richard Sherman turned all casual fans from a “I hope Brady/Manning doesn’t win the Super Bowl, to “anyone but THAT GUY’S team wins it” .
It is not easy to do, but Sherman did it. In the brief post season interview, Sherman turned the world against his team. In a totally unacceptable post season rant, Sherman spewed “I’m the best corner in the game! When you try with me like a sorry receiver like (Micheal) Crabtree, that’s the result you’re gonna get! Don’t you ever talk about me. Don’t you open your mouth about the best, or I’ll shut it for you real quick.”
This coming from a guy who according to the official statistics, had 2 tackles and 1 pass defended. Granted, he was in on the most important pass, but seriously? All that talk for one play? Everyone knows he was fired up about the Seahawks win, but seriously- you look like an ass.
To be honest, I am a born and bred Patriots fan. Grew up in New England, watched the Grogan and Eason nightmares , and love the Brady and Manning rivalry. And coming out of the early game, it was anyone who wins to beat Peyton for the championship.
Only because he beat Brady. And New England. So it was- beat Manning.
But as I watched this game, a great game for sure, I was actually happy to see a team that deserved it win the Super Bowl. Manning be dammed. When your team is out, however, the fan may look for a reason to root for, or against, another team. As that causal fan, and a columnist, I could not help to revel in the great NFC Championship game between the 49ers and the Seahawks- back and forth, calls and no-calls on both sides, until the final clock ticked to 00:00. What a fantastic game! Then it came- that fateful Sherman interview with Erin Andrews that was beyond reproach.
It turned me, and I am guessing, many others against the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Who knows, maybe Richard Sherman might have a game that is worthy of a rant like that. I seriously doubt it. But then again, classy players, and people, never talk like that regardless of their situations or game statistics. So go get your Super Bowl Peyton Manning, and Deymaryius Thomas, and Knowshon Moreno. You’ve shown the class to deserve it. And I, for one, will be cheering for you.
