Shocker: Rondo Will Return

Danny Ainge says the Celtics will exercise the $2 million option in Rajon Rondo's contract for the 2009-10 season and they will do it before this season starts.

"It makes me feel good, they still want me," said the 22-year-old Rondo, who averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in 29.9 minutes per game last season. "It feels good to know that someone still wants you."

Still want you? That might be an understatement. Why wouldn't the Celtics want  a guy who eventually is going to be one of the top 5 point guards in the league? Now that we got the love out of the way, let's talk business. Rondo's agent is already pushing for a long-term deal, but the number of years and money will depend a lot on how Rajon progresses this year.

Unfortunately, due to the ignorance of Ken Rosenthal at Fox Sports, the issue of racism in sports is once again a hot topic in Boston. Mr. Rosenthal felt the need to point out how "white" the Red Sox are. In a nutshell, he raises the issue, yet doesn't accuse the ownership of racism, but says the low number of black players could affect how prospective free-agents view the team. What? Not surprisingly, he contradicts himself several times throughout the article.

This is an issue we've danced around a few times here on Red's Army. While the topic was discussed this morning on Opie & Anthony, a caller from NH said Tim Duncan has a no-trade to Boston clause in his contract and insinuated it was due to Boston's racist rep. Has anyone heard this? Ignorance is an ugly, ugly thing.

Read Rosenthal's column…and tell us what you think.
