Catcher Kelly Shoppach has been traded to the Mets. The Red Sox placed Shoppach on trade waivers last week in the hopes that a team would claim him since they would like to get Lavarnway more time in the lineup.
Andrew Bailey was reactivated and took Shoppach’s place on the roster. Bailey will not immediately assume the role of closer but should in the near furture after getting some innings under his belt.
