Shots from the Schott- Badger Hunting

Joe is back with his last installment of Shots from Schott for the season as the Buckeyes capped off a 29-2 regular season with a 93-65 win over the Wisconsin Buzzcuts. In case you missed it, here’s video that kicked it off

• 28 pt win, scoring over 90+ points and 14-15, 3 point range,   That is dealing with it!!!!
• Finished the season 20-0 at home, which puts us at 37-1 over the last two seasons.  Ohio State has strung together 22 consecutive home wins.
• Really starting to get a big time atmosphere at the Schott.  Putting the students on the sidelines was still the best decision we have made in the history of the building.
• The game marked the 5th sell out of the season and easily the most intense crowd of the season.  The crowd was up all game long, with lots to cheer about- Matta described it as “40 minutes of third down intensity”
• Not only were there real fireworks at the Schott today, but there were plenty of fireworks in the game as well.  Streamers at the end, as well as a nice presentation of the Big Ten trophy.

• What a senior day for 3 seniors that will be missed!
• Lighty, what a great player, and will go down as a Buckeye great for everything he has done for Ohio State basketball.  Glad to see him have a big game today.
• Thriebler! “He’s On Fire!!!!”  He is 17 for his last 20, and was 7-8 for the game, but he was the only one to miss one today which he received a little bit of flak from Lighty in post game.
• Overheard in postgame notes. Dallas commenting on Diebler and how he was about cry, but he made a joke to keep him from crying.

Want more insight?

• Sullinger’s 22 points marks the 8th time he has scored 20+ this season.  Has been in double figures 27 of 31 games.
• Buford finished with 18 pts and he really seems to be in the flow of the game now, working with the ball in his hands at time, and coming off screens other times.
• Our defense really shut down Jordan Taylor! Aaron Craft locked him down, but it took a lot of help as well from the rest of the team.  After Taylor’s 27 pts last time, and his previous low of 13, we held him to only 8 pts today.  This led to chants of “Where is Taylor” from the students while he was at the line.
• Nice to see Sibert getting in the action and hitting a 3.  He is really having fun and waiting his turn.  Matta had good things to say about Sibert after the game.
• J.D. Weatherspoon should be suited up for our next game from what I heard.
• Lenzelle Smith finished the game with a 2 trillion and Eddie Days with a 1 trillion.  Mark Titus is very proud of them!
• Today’s Big Ten Championship gives us 19 Big Ten Titles, 3rd behind Purdue (22), and Indiana (20)
• The crowd was sure roaring and giving congratulations to the Women’s team for the Big Ten  Tournament championship, as they kept announcing the score at the game.  Lavender with 71 pts in 3 games and named tourament MVP for the third straight year.
• Two school sport?  Lighty made the comment after the game, but we are really looking forward to March and April in basketball, and not just waiting for Spring Football anymore.

• James Lauranitis and Mike Vrabel were both honored midway through the second half.  The crowd really roared for both. Terelle Pryor was also in attendance.
• There were about 10 or so 2012 football recruits at the game being accompanied by Jim Bollman and Luke Fickell.  The recruits I spotted were Centerville WR Frank Epitropoul0s (offered, gotta add him to the final number), Canton Mckinley DE Sevon Pittman, Whitmer DE Chris Wormely (Was enjoying himself) Canton Glenoak RB Brionte Dunn (huge kid), St. Ed’s OT Kyle Kalis (looks ready to play now), Trotwood OT Lawrence Mosely, St. Ed’s DT Greg Kuhar, and St. Ignatius ATH Blake Thomas
• Toledo Whitmer brothers Nigel Hayes (2013 basketball prospects) and Kenny Hayes (2011 DE) were also in attendance.
