If you weren’t sure, its official. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are for real. They went to San Francisco, a place where they had not won since 1980, and beat the 49ers with a mixture of offense AND Defense. And in overturning 30 years of history, the Bucs helped the 49ers live a little of their own. It was the first time since 1977 that the 49ers were shut out on their home field. It wasn’t always pretty, it was only 7-0 at half time, and when Connor Barth missed a 42 yard FG in the 3rd period, you almost felt it would be perfectly acceptable if the 49ers came back and made the Bucs fight for the win. Instead, the Bucs took control of the game with a steady pass rush, a defense that shut down the run (this is not a dream), and a running game that churned out 162 yards on the ground; 82 of which from LeGarrett Blount. For the longest time Blount had a 4.5 yard per carry average, but in the 4th qtr the 9ers swarmed around him and limited his yardage and statistics. But hey, stats are for losers right? And I’m not saying that in jest. Josh Freeman had only 136 yards passing on the day, but also threw for 2 touchdowns. The biggest suprise of the day though was the brilliant performance of the Bucs defense, who held the 49ers to onlyl 71 rushing yards as a team! Stylez G White led all defenders with 1.5 sacks, while Gerald McCoy got his first sack as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, getting two half stacks actually. And Cadillac Williams scored another Touchdown, showing his value to this team that now has a dangerous running attack to go with a pass catching combo that is establishing itself all year long, especially on the road. Tampa Bay climbs to 7-3, and clearly is a playoff team looking for its position.
