Shutout: A’s 6, Tigers 0

Gerald Laird’s luck in a new uniform didn’t change.  He was absolutely robbed of a home run in the third inning by Gabe Gross (above), which would have given the Tigers a 1-0 lead and possibly some momentum they so desperately needed. “Hey, if Laird can hit a home run, we can all hit!”

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.  The Tigers had just five hits (four coming from Austin Jackson and Johnny Damon).  The Tigers did have a chance to tie things up in the 6th, but Magglio lined out to third with two outs, ending any hopes of having a two-out rally.  On the bump, Rick Porcello wasn’t great, but he was quality enough to give the Tigers a chance to win.  Brad Thomas pooped all over those chances when he gave up three runs in his inning-plus of relief late in the game.

Tigers have now lost 6 of their last 7 games and trail the Twins by 3.5 games in the Central division.  Something needs to change, and I’m looking at you bottom of the lineup (0-9).  Oh, you too, Raburn (.186).
