Each day during spring training for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pirates Breakdown will give you game recaps, news updates, and exclusive video of player and coach interviews, highlights, and more from the day.
The Pirates saw their first tie of the spring against the Twins today, which should bring their overall spring training record to 1-2-1 if ties were counted like in the old hockey days. They aren’t, so the Pirates remain 1-2 in Grapefruit League action so far. In today’s action, Francisco Liriano took the mound for the Pirates and had an impressive debut, striking out four in two hit-less, scoreless innings of work. The Pirates would score a run in the first and the ninth. A Starling Marte triple brought in the first run while an Adam Frazier single tied the game late. Gregory Polanco stood out as he went 3-3 as he hopes to improve upon his 2015 campaign.
Being that today’s game was televised, we will not have our usual highlights and post-game comments. In their stead, here are some choice GIFs from the day’s action.

The most welcome sight of the game today had to be Liriano displaying near-mid-season form.

A great tidbit on Liriano’s outing came from Pirates’ announcer Joe Block:

Tomorrow the Pittsburgh Pirates will travel to face the Atlanta Braves. MLB’s Adam Berry clues us in to the scheduled pitchers:
Pirates are taking the kids to Disney tomorrow. Glasnow, Taillon, Brault, Kuhl and Trevor Williams will pitch vs Braves in Lake Buena Vista.

The scheduled pitchers are sure to catch the eye, as arguably the top four starting pitching prospects in the system will take the mound.
