The fact that the Dodgers claimed Adrian Gonzalez off of trade waivers is not that big of a deal. The Sox were likely just seeing what teams might be interested before pulling him back. The fact that the Dodgers also claimed Josh Beckett is big news. This has to signal a package deal with Gonzo and Beckett heading to LA. It is very unlikely that the Dodgers would take Beckett with his current numbers, and be on the hook for his $15.75 million annual contact with two years left to go. They simply would not risk the waiver claim unless there was the framework of a deal that also included Gonzalez.
The Red Sox and Dodgers have 48 hours to make a deal and it appears that something big is going to happen. Beckett has the right to decline a trade to the Dodgers but with the way things have been going for him in Boston that doesn’t look like it will be a factor. Red Sox fans would mostly like to keep Gonzo and send Beckett packing. This simply is not going to happen. It is going to be a big package deal or a whole lot of nothin’.
UPDATE: Gordo Edes is reporting that Crawford and Punto are also rumored to be in the mix going to LA.
Blockbuster: red Sox, Dodgers working on deal that would send AGon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto to LA. Hurdles remain, but closing in
