It’s that time of the year again! The the smell of brats, dogs and burgers fill the air. And of course a brew of choice in hand. The staff at The Buckeye Battle Cry would like to take this time to thank veterans and those currently serving that have risked their lives for our freedom, and remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Thank You.
With the weekend limping into it’s last day, how about we get you updated on some Big Ten and Ohio State news and views? It’s been a very busy time in Buckeye Land, let’s get you updated with the latest clips across the country.
Roll ‘Em.
Cody Green was well on his way to being one of the up and coming quarterbacks in college football when he joined Nebraska two years ago. The 6th best incoming dual threat quarterback of the 2009 class has at times showcased that ability, but with Tim Beck’s new system and a man named Taylor Martinez, it looks like the Texan will put on his cowboys boots and travel onward. A good thing for opposing Big Ten teams, because Green adds a lot of depth, and can replace the oft-injured Taylor Martinez pretty evenly.
No word on where Green is targeting, but names of schools that have been rumored are: Boise State, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston, and Louisville. A whole slew of other Big 12 schools such as Kansas State, Iowa State, and Kansas are in need of a quarterback.
Boise seems the most compelling with Kellen Moore graduating after this season. Louisville is the home of Green’s former offensive coordinator Shawn Watson, who is now the Cardinals’ quarterback coach and could be a place of comfort for Green.
The next head football coach at Ohio State should be a guy who grew up in Big Ten country, began building his coaching reputation at one of the conference’s member schools and advanced to the top of his profession by winning two of the championships every player dreams of achieving.
The next head football coach at Ohio State should be Tony Dungy.
Any article titled, “The next head coach at Ohio State?” should make you shake your head and wonder, “isn’t there anything else you can write about?” Most of the talk surrounding who is going to replace the coach who is supposedly losing his job somewhere down the line has been Urban Meyer.
Fox Sports Ohio’s Bruce Hooley, formerly of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer and WBNS-FM, throws out the name of names in the free agent coaching market. Could Tony Dungy really be the next lead man at Ohio State? Personally, I have no reason to care. I’m one of the types that believes it’s time to stick behind our ball coach and worry about who will replace him 5-10 years down the line when the time DOES come.
A little basketball talk this weekend, Thad Matta has brought in a former college star as his new Video Coordinator. Remember that guy that played at Duke for three years, then got a tryout with the Green Bay Packers, and decided that he would give a whirl as a quarterback in division I football?
Yup, that’s the guy who will be taking on one of the more important jobs on the OSU coaching staff. He will be in charge of scouting opponents and breaking down Buckeye film for analysis. Paulus spent last year as an assistant coach at Navy.
For those of you who haven’t read or heard about the recent Ray Small discussion on the campus newspaper, “The Lantern” you might be trying to ignore the continuous digging into of the OSU football program like most of us.
Earlier last week, former OSU receiver Ray Small allegedly told the campus publication that he sold his championship rings for money and that some players don’t even think about NCAA rules. Small then came out and told a Buckeye TV station that the newspaper twisted his words.
The Lantern refutes that this weekend with some interview excerpts from the reporters’ talk with Small.
What’s even more interesting is some current and former player reactions from the whole situation:
I know damn well he isn’t welcome back in our locker room. At least not while I’m here!!
He isn’t a part of the sacred brotherhood anymore…never on time, never accountable, never sacrificed for the team. Can you trust his word?
Show me a coward and I will show you ray small
I made my name by hard work-blood-sweat and tears…he made his name today…by selling lies to the lantern..enough said..workout time!!
Stop crying and lieing… Just bc u didn’t play as much as u wanted to doesn’t mean u can talk now…
The nerve of some cats!! It’s one thing to bite the hand that feeds, but to go and lie about what u were being fed???? Really?! Smh
And finally a quote from the twitter page of J.B. Shugarts:
Hope you enjoy the reading and reaction, enjoy the rest of your holiday!
