Given that it’s the start of bowl week, this’ll probably be more scattered than usual. If that’s even possible.
- Healing powers: Christian Bryant is back, baby, according to his Twitter and (most importantly) according to Tressel.
- This week in clothing: The Buckeyes will be wearing away jerseys in the Sugar Bowl. Worked well last year… Their Rose opponents from 2010 are wearing highlighters.
- Raise the roof. Please: You’ve probably heard that Minnesota’s stadium might be used for Monday’s Vikings/Bears game. There are lots of glitches, not including the buckets of snow on the field and elsewheres- It seats 55k, and there are 65 The stadium doesn’t serve alcohol, There are no luxury boxes, and it’s been “winterized” since November so it’s hard to know if the pipes will be OK. Wait… no alcohol? What do they think this is… a crappy bowl game?
- All a matter of perspective: Disappointed in Iowa’s season? Haven’t you been paying attention?
- You know who’s not back? Boubacar… unless you mean “back in trouble“
- We’ve all got our own opinions on the Big T1e2n logo, and I’m starting to like the one I saw on the MZone.
- New coaches: Haywood to Pitt, Golden to the Hurricanes, Muschamp at Florida, Stewart still at WVA (for now). Still no decision at Vanderbilt or Michigan (what? He’s not done yet? Mea Culpa)
- Christmas miracles abound: This is good news. This is, too.
- There’s a reason it’s ‘Capital’ One bowl season: Want to know why there are so many stupidly named bowl games? It’s the money. Of course, this doesn’t explain why there’s so many bowl games to begin with… or how this will impact the schools involved, who end up losing money already.
- This week in The Freek:
- Want a college playoff? You should talk to Mark Cuban…
- Yeah, there’s no way this ends badly: Colorado State has decided to do special admissions based on talent rather than academics or other measures. Interesting, isn’t it, how athletic talent seems to be the one most valued in these types of decisions.
- On the other end of the spectrum: The Patriot League has decided to continue their practice of not granting athletic scholarships. Student-Athletes. In that order.
- Falalalala: You’ll probably hear lots of crappy Christmas songs over the next few weeks, so let me give you this dose of awesome as a palate cleanser:
