Note: As I was typing this, news broke of the Japanese earthquake. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people in the entire Pacific rim… give a bit of perspective about what might be important in life.
Can’t blame Buckeye fans for being a little out of the loop regarding other news in the world of college sports… here’s a quick recap:
Elsewhere in the NCAA- Hey! Guess What! There were other stories about NCAA institutions that might be outside of the realm of “okee-dokee-ness”.
- Baylor- Yup, they’ve got a reason to be pissed at the NCAA, although the contradictory nature of the NCAA should surprise no one.
- Georgia’s got their own set of problems, although they seem to be secondary.
- Stanford, which is an incredible academic institution, had their “easy, athlete friendly” class list revealed this week. Wonder how their ex-coach felt while all that was happening?
- We ain’t done yet… Yahoo sports implies that there are two other stories on the horizon, one less than the Ohio State situation and one that’s a “10”. So, college sports fans, be careful with the schadenfreude.
Tressel, Another Perspective- With the media barrage that’s out there, it might be good to hear at least a couple of voices that support The Vest.
- Former Buckeye Will Allen has weighed in–
Don’t throw him under the bus just because he allegedly concealed information. I think he is much more of a person of integrity than people want to give him credit for. To just say “he knew, he knew, he knew” like he must have something to do with scandal or that he was trying to hide something is wrong. I just think regardless if he did or didn’t know, let’s learn from it, let’s grow from it, and let’s move on with our lives.
- We linked to it the other day, but Jeff’s got a pretty good piece over at Fox Sports Ohio–
We know that the coach did the wrong thing, and we are not forgiving him his trespasses. But you forced us to defend him even when he did the right thing.
Right or wrong, he’s our coach. He’s the reason your team doesn’t win championships, and we understand your hatred of him. But you will not make us join in your call for his public flogging. By now, we know what your motives are. So yes, we plan to defend him again today.
- Was my first exposure to Mark Rea, but it was a good one–
Nevertheless, whether Tressel withheld information, failed to tell the whole truth or out-and-out lied – and for whatever reason, noble or otherwise – he is the one who will have to live the consequences. He is the one whose legacy with be forever changed, and knowing him just a little bit, I’m guessing that will be the toughest sanction of all for him to bear.
- Thanks, Coach Knight–
Let me make one last comment, if I was capable of making a stronger defense for Jim Tressel, I would. Because he is a guy that I have tremendous respect for, and a great feeling of appreciation for how he goes about things as a coach. And that comes from me, as a coach, thinking that way about another coach. I couldn’t say anything more about him than I already have because there’s just nobody that I would feel more strongly about in terms of doing what’s right than Jim Tressel.
- Ok, now I’m just confused-
He’s a good man, and I have a lot of respect for him, and they’ll fight through that situation, and it will have no effects on the rivalry…. I’ve known Jim Tressel a long time. He’s a quality guy, a doggone good football coach, and I don’t know that situation.- Brady Hoke
There’s not all this crazy cheating and things like that going on that people think. There are some guys out there that bend the rules a little bit or they get around the rules and try to get a competitive advantage. I don’t think that was the case in this at all.- Rich Rodriguez
Shootyhoops- Time to get your madness on! Oh, and you’re going to want to be a part of this year’s tBBCBC (The Buckeye Battlecry Bracket Challenge); the swag is off the chain.
- Big East tournament opened up with some crappy officiating; although, given that they have to cover 135 teams in the conference, you really can’t be surprised.

- Things got much more exciting in the Pitt/UConn game (you know UConn? Where their coach has some time in the penalty box coming up?)

- Fab? Must be Latin for “no trophies” Ramzy takes another look at Michigan’s Fab 5, one that’s not as glowing as the ESPN one that you’ve had shoved down your throat for the past week or so.
Just Because
- Herbie may be “always be a Buckeye“, but he’s also a Tennessee Native now. Seems to be fitting right in.
- Here’s an anthropology dissertation waiting to happen:
