Simon Gagne Returns

Mattingly-th

Ladies and gentlemen, he’s back.

After being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning and winning a Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings this past season, Simon Gagne was reacquired by the Flyers for a conditional 4th round pick (3rd round if the Flyers make the playoffs, 4thif they don’t) on Tuesday afternoon. Gagne originally played 10 seasons with the club, scoring two huge goals in their 2010 playoff series vs. the Boston Bruins and scoring a total of 259 goals for the club. It was a little odd in that the team announced the news before any sort of media buzz that the Flyers were interested in Gagne. There was, however, buzz that the Flyers were interested in acquiring Winnipeg Jets Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien. Gagne is expected to play tomorrow vs. Washington.

In other news, the Flyers announced that Tye McGinn is out for 2 weeks with a broken face suffered in a fight with Toronto’s Mike Brown. The Adirondack Phantoms also traded longtime minor-league defenseman Mike Testwuide to the Abbotsford Heat (Calgary’s AHL affiliate) for Center Mitch Wahl.
