Keston Hiura, Milwaukee Brewers
Similar to what Pollock is dealing with in LA, it’s tough for any Brewer hitters to make huge waves when they’re playing alongside a guy like Christian Yelich. But still, Hiura is making this hitting-big-league-pitching thing look not all that hard.
The recently-turned 23-year-old has taken advantage of his opportunity in Milwaukee with the club fighting with the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. After slashing .257/.318/.475 (good for a 104 wRC+) through his first 110 plate appearances, his last 98 trips to the plate (entering Wednesday) has included a .345/.418/.644 line (good for a 169 wRC+…nice).
He’s continued to amp up his line-drive rate when comparing his performance from before and after the All-Star break (22.7% to 24.6%), but it’s also coincided with a dramatic rise in hard contact (39.4% to 52.6%). So, while his .491 BABIP is obviously going to come down at some point, it’s at least not too surprising to see that number be so high after looking at his batted-ball numbers.
