In a series of surprise moves the Sixers traded Michael Carter-Williams and K.J. McDaniels this afternoon just before the NBA trade deadline.  MCW who is the reigning NBA rookie of the year was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a four team-team deal that also included the Phoenix Suns and the Lakers.  In the deal the Sixers receive a top-5 protected pick from the Lakers.

The Sixers will have four 1st round picks in the 2015 draft.  The best possible scenario would for them to have the 1st and 6th overall pick.

‘I can’t lie I’m shocked,’Carter-Williams tweeted.  ‘I love this city thank you for everything. I can honestly say I gave it my all. I wish Philly nothing but the best.’

His career in Philly ends after just 111 games.  In that time he has averaged 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists per game.  He set a franchise record for steals in a game with 9 in his Sixers debut.  MCW is the fifth player in NBA history to win the Rookie of Year award and then be traded the following season.

The Sixers are just 2-22 over the last two seasons when MCW is not in the lineup.

Following the trade the Sixers signed former Penn State guard Tim Frazier to a 10 day contract.  Look for him to get the start against the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night.

Sixers General Manager Sam Hinkie was not done for the day.  The next move was trading K.J. McDaniels to the Houston Rockets for point guard Isaiah Canaan and a second round pick.  Even though McDaniels was a highlight reel player this season he was only on a one year contract.  He would have been a restricted free agent at seasons end.

He started 15 games this season and average 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks a game.  He will be most remembered for some highlight reel dunks.

Canaan was a 2013 draft pick of the Rockets and has averaged 5 points a game for his career.  This season he is shooting 36% percent from three point land.

Hinkie and the Sixers rebuilding plan continues, who knows what the next series of moves will be.
