Sixers Talk: Allen Iverson’s case to be a first-ballot hall of famer

2

Allen Iverson had a fantastic career in Philadelphia, where he cemented himself as a basketball legend. He will be eligible to be in the hall of fame in 2016.

Allen Iverson was a stud in college. He attended Georgetown University, where he played basketball for 2 years. He set the school record for highest points per game average, when he scored 22.9 PPG, and won Big East Defensive Player of the Year both years at G’Town. Allen Iverson was taken by the Sixers with the 1st overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft.

Iverson won NBA Rookie of the Year in the 1996-97 season. He won the scoring title 4 times, in 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2004. Allen Iverson was one of the best scorers in NBA history, because of the way he played. He played as hard, if not harder, than anyone who’s ever played the game. Of course, A.I. had injuries problems because of the way he played as well. He scored the ball at will, as he averaged 26.7 points per game over the course of his career, which ranks 6th all time. Iverson averaged almost 30 PPG in his post season career as well. Iverson led the league in steals 3 times, and led the league in minutes played per page 8 times, to go along with starting 82 games in a season twice in his career. A.I. was also an NBA All-Star 11 times, and his number 3 uniform was retired by the Philadelphia 76ers organization.

Allen Iverson was the MVP in the 2000-01 season, where he famously led the Sixers to the Finals to play the Koba/Shaq led Lakers. Iverson single-handedly brought the team to the ’01 finals, and even stole game 1 versus the dominant Kobe-led Lakeshow. Allen Iverson played for Team USA in the 2004 Olympics, and helped them bring home a Bronze medal.

Allen Iverson was more than just a basketball player to the City of Brotherly Love. He was the city itself. He represented the inner city kid, because he was one. He will always be remembered as one of the best Sixers of all time. He revolutionized the game of basketball. Iverson was there with the Fab 5 and Jason Williams, who all brought that “swag” and hip-hop culture to the court. Pound-for-pound, he was one of the greatest players to ever live.

Allen Iverson has my vote for the hall of fame in 2016.
