Slip slidin’ away…

Although the Rays got on the board first by Carlos Pena’s solo shot in the 4th inning off of Lackey, the Sox came back to score 3 in the next 2 innings. Staked to a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 6th, Lackey couldn’t hold it and watched the Sox lead go slip slidin’ away. Carl Crawford hit a 2 run shot, and even the light hitting (.160 BA) DH Dan Johnson, last night’s hero in the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off home run got into the show with an RBI. (What’s a .160 BA hitter doing as designated hitter?!) Hideki Okajima returned from the DL not looking a whole lot much better, if any at all, as he inherited 2 Rays’ runners and let the last of Lackey’s mess cross the plate, as he gave up a hit and a walk before he was able to close out his 2/3rds of an inning. Last night’s goat, Scott Atchison, came in to pitch a scoreless 8th inning.

Again the Red Sox bats were stifled, as they managed a mere 7 hits off of James Shields and none off of the Rays’ bullpen, (or should we call it a fish tank?) Mike Lowell had 2 hits and a run, including a double. Victor Martinez now has 11 hits in his last 5 games.
