Former Gamecocks Baseball standout Justin Smoak might not be a big name star like Cliff Lee but he can offer the Seattle Mariners something they need desperately – offense.
Half way through the season, the Mariners rank either last or close to last in every offensive category in MLB. In the last four games, Smoak was 5-15 with 2 HR’s, 1 Double,3 runs scored and 4 RBI’s. And he is batting .333 with a slugging percentage of .800 in those same four outings.
Despite the Mariners losing 3 out of 4 to the Angles this past week, Smoak looked like he can help a club that has struggled to score runs and hit home runs this season. I don’t expect the Mariners to make a run or anything close to a run in the AL West but with Smoaks’ bat and great glove work at first base. He should be able to help the Mariners not be the worst team in the AL this season.
Stay tuned to LOHD as we will keep you updated on how Justin is doing in Seattle. Up next for Seattle and Justin Smoak will be a 7 game home stand against White Sox’s and Red Sox’s. Starting with the White Sox’s today, and the Red Sox’s on Thursday.
