When the Pirates were playing well, they kicked the crap out of the Reds (7-2 in nine games played in April, May, and July). So what happens now that they’re not playing so well? I’m pretty sure we’re well-beyond the point that the Reds can get back into contention in the NL Central (they’re 12 1/2 games out, just one game ahead of the Pirates), so they won’t be rolling into town trying to rack up some easy wins.
That means that all that’s left is Homer Bailey and Kevin Correia on the mound and the young players on either team trying to finish the season strong. Which is interesting enough, I suppose, but this matchup certainly doesn’t have the spark we were all hoping it would have just a month ago.
First pitch tonight is at 7:05.
