While Rick Nash didn’t end up coming to the Rangers on deadline day, John Scott did and here’s what he said about the kind of player he is (via Newsday)…
“I’m expected to protect my teammates. I don’t want anybody to take liberties with my teammates and I take pride in that. Make sure my guys have ice to skate around and are not scared out there.”
…well I like the sound of that.
…i don’t anticipate Scott getting much action down the stretch, but it’s nice to know if the Rangers need a little extra muscle Torts can turn to the 6′ 8″ defenseman.
Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United was able to sit down with the newest Ranger after practice yesterday…
And if you’re not sure how big 6′ 8″ actually is, TheNYRBlog reader John Z. sends me this pic of him with Scott during Casino Night…
Scott also discusses with the New York Times his thoughts on succeeding former Wild teammate and close friend Derek Boogaard…
“That really hasn’t sunk in yet. But I’m sure it will when I put on the Rangers uniform. I think about him every day. I’m a Ranger now, and I still can’t believe my friend, the guy was everybody’s friend, isn’t around anymore. It’s kind of eerie that I’m following in his footsteps.”
…wow. Didn’t realize he was so close with Boogaard. Must be a real emotional situation for him to come to the Rangers knowing his friend died as a member of the Blueshirts.
For the rest of Scott’s feelings on Boogaard and fighting in hockey go to the New York Times.
