As America enjoys a day full of baseball, beer and barbecue, may we not forget the reason for it. Our happiness today comes at the expense of those men and women who willingly sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Hundreds and thousands of soldiers who will never see their families again so that we may live peacefully with ours. This is often forgotten in the grind of daily life. We are often too busy, too tired or too ignorant to take a moment to think of how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful country. America may not be perfect, but it is ours.
So, as you crack open that first beer, bite into that first hot dog, or catch that first ray of warm sunshine on the beach, make sure to think about the over 683,000 reasons you can enjoy it. And today, when you hear that Star-Spangled Banner being played, try to listen to the lyrics a little more closely.
America is the “Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave”.
