Some consistency would be nice

After a week of abysmal baseball, the Pirates looked great last night. Is asking for that two nights in a row too much? With Zach Duke on the mound it might be, but what I really want to know is that the nights were guys like Alvarez and McCutchen (or Tabata, Walker, etc.) carry the offense can happen more often than occasionally. I mean, obviously these guys are extremely young and raw, but even a little bit of extended consistency would be a very welcome event right now.

Anyways, tonight is probably going to be ugly because Ricky Nolasco is pitching for the Marlins and he strikes out a ton of guys and doesn’t walk many. He does give up some home runs, though, so maybe if the Pirates can put some runners on base for Pedro or Garrett Jones lightning will strike once tonight and they’ll find themselves with some runs on the board again.

First pitch is 7:05, Clemente/Cangelosi is after the jump.

Not sure what this is? Check here and here. Short version: in the comments pick the Pirates you think will be most and least valuable in today’s game. If you haven’t jumped aboard yet, it’s been a lot of fun so far and now’s as good a time as any to join in.

Just noticed that I forgot to publish yesterday’s update. The scoreboard below is completely up to date, and here’s last night’s graph:
