At a 3 p.m. press conference, Reds GM Walt Jocketty said “this is a big day for us” as he introduced Orlando Cabrera as the Reds new shortstop. Jocketty said Cabrera goes into spring training as the starting shortstop, but that that team will find playing time for Paul Janish.
Jocketty said moving Willy Taveras and Adam Rosales to the A’s in exchange for Aaron Miles helped open up salary for Cabrera. He said the A’s absorbed the difference between the salaries of Taveras and Miles.
