A team was finally smart enough to hire P.J. Carlesimo away from the Spurs.
The Sonics are set to announce his hiring as the head coach on Thursday. It’s no surprise that it took a team whose GM was a former Spurs assistant GM to finally give Carlesimo a chance at a head coaching position once again in this league.
Carlesimo was picked for the job over former Sonics assistant Dwane Casey and will lead a team who has seen much change over the past week.
The Sonics traded Ray Allen during the draft for Wally Szcerbiak, Delonte West and the rights to Jeff Green. Rashard Lewis will also sign with the Orlando Magic leaving Carlesimo with a young team led by Kevin Durant, Green and Luke Ridnour.

Notes
According to WMUR 9 in New Hampshire, Matt Bonner will return to the Spurs. He will reportedly sign a three-year deal in the coming weeks.
The San Antonio Express also reports that Jacque Vaughn will sign a two-year contract for 2.5 million. Bonner, Vaughn and Oberto will sign on July 11, the first day teams can sign free agents.
