Sorry, Long Lost Cousin Allen

Sorry, Long Lost Cousin Allen

"The Other Huddy"

Good afternoon and Happy Monday Cougs!  A basketball game happened yesterday and the Cougs won it 59-50. Hooray! Everything that was awesome about Wednesday's game against Gonzaga (National TV, packed house, raucous crowd, exciting, well-played game against a top 10 opponent), yesterday's game against Fresno State wasn't. It was a sleepy, sloppy tilt about which the only good thing you can say really is that the Cougs won in spite of not playing well. In any sport, that's a trait you ultimately need to have, and it was good to see. Due to a soccer game (shout out to Fighting Llamas FC!) I had to watch the game on my DVR and for that I'm thankful. Here are some other real quick hit thoughts about the big win:

My family hasn't had a reunion in quite some time and I'm not exactly up to spped on all the goings-on, but I naturally assumed that the Bulldogs'  leading scorer Allen Huddleston is my long lost cousing. The resemblance is pretty obvious. Being that he's family, I wanted to see him fare well while the Cougs coasted to an easy victory. Neither of these things happened. Cousin Allen struggled and the Cougs couldn't put him and his mates away untl the last few minutes. I hope your season gets better from here, Cuz. I'll see you at the next Huddleston family reunion.

Hey, Coach Bone did a thing again! For the second game in a row, we threw a defensive wrinkle at the opponent, this time using our bigs to trap coming out of screens. It seemed to give FSU fits for a while, so I suppose it was effective. That said, other things that gave FSU fits were shooting, passing, dribbling and basically anthing else important to successful basketball. You have to give some credit to our defense, though. If it was a Tony Bennett team, we certainly would have. 59-50 was our thing in the glory days!

Thank goodness for Brock Motum. Check out this play-by-play. Royce Woolridge made a lay-up at the 14:19 mark of the first half. From that time until Mike Ladd made a pair of free throws 7 seconds into the second half, the Brockaroo was the only Cougar who scored. Suffice it to say, secondary scoring is a bit of a problem for this team. Fortunately…

Season high for Mike Ladd! Ladd carried the scoring load in the second half (inasumch as one can carry a scoring load when the whole team scores 59). Way to stick it to your former team, Mike. I don't really know the circumstances of your transfer, but I'm going to pretend that it was acrimonious and this was a huge redemption for you. #Narrative

There's really not much more to be said about this one. Winning ugly is still winning. Go Cougs.
