“Sorry Sabby, sit down some more” Grimm news for Piscitelli

Russ Grimm's son Cody Grimm
Cody Grimm becomes the latest rookie to start for the young (25.7 years of age avg) Bucs.
The young Bucs defense just got younger. Rather than do a complete switch up of players all over the place, which would be just be a stop gap measure for an obviously permanent problem, Raheem Morris has named Cody Grimm, Rookie, to start in place of Tanard Jackson, who himself started as a rookie back in 2007. The Players say they have all the confidence in Grimm, as should we. Lets consider the source now; Raheem Morris is the former D Backs coach, he should know who can and cannot do the job. While the popular choices may have been Barber (for his ball hawking skills), Piscitelli (for, well whatever reason fans still have for supporting him), or Corey Lynch (for reasons painfully obvious, other than the guy does seem like he can play), those answers would have been temporary ones. They would have been great had T Jack been coming back in a month or so. But Tanard Jackson has probably played his last game as a starter in Tampa Bay. He is only ELIGIBLE to apply for reinstatement at this time next year, which means he MUST miss all of this season, and all of the off season programs and OTAs, and all of next years training camp, and is not allowed to participate in any of those activities in any way shape or form. Nor is he allowed at One Buc or to practice. He is essentially cut off from the team now, and that is not something you can just undo in week 3 of the 2011 season. The opportunity has now been passed on to Grimm, who as everyone knows by now, is the son of recently inducted Hall of Famer Russ Grimm, former Redskin Hog. Grimm says it will be no biggie making the move, he played in large crowds in college and in the preseason (he must mean the road games). The Spot Grimm takes is the Free Safety, not the Strong safety made so famous by John Lynch and to some extent Jermaine Philips and their head knocking ways. The Strong safety will help out first in run support at times, and in the Tampa Two, as with both safeties, are asked to cover the deep sides of the field. Of course no one knows what their role is in the Tampa 2.1, but its probably similar to one or the other. The Free Safety is more of a ball hawking player, and is more free to roam the secondary, kind of like a center fielder. Example- how many Touchdowns has John Lynch scored in his career at strong safety? 0 Its not that kind of a position, and Raheem and the Bucs coaching staff including DB Coach Jimmy Lake did not want to alter TWO Bucs positions instead of just one. So Cody Grimm gets the nod, and we will see a 35 roaming the secondary like the days of Martin Meyhew! Lets hope Cody does anywhere near as well as that old timer, or the other guy with the Grimm name.
