South Carolina baseball got a 2-1 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday afternoon at Carolina Stadium.
Breaking it Down…South Carolina managed just four hits in total, but Presbyterian only had five. PC got on the board first with a 1-0 lead in the opening inning but the Gamecocks would rally with two big hits – a triple by TJ Costen and a home run by Joey Pankake – that proved enough to usher in another win.
Stars of the Game…junior Tyler Webb picked up his first career save in this game….junior left-hander Nolan Belcher earned his first win since May 11, 2010 with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief…TJ Costen had a triple….Evan Marzilli had a key RBI….Joey Pankake got his first HR….freshman left-hander Jordan Montgomery made his first career start, going four innings allowing one run on four hits with a strikeout and no walks allowed.
What to Take From the Game…Good win but PC is not that great of a foe as they are winless in 2012. However, it is always good to see USC keep the poise and get a win. Thus far the pitching staff looks great and the freshmen growing up fast. Team looks good early on but big test coming with Clemson.
This and that…The Gamecocks are now 7-0 on the season…They have won 17 games in a row.
Up next…South Carolina will play Clemson in Charleston Friday, at home on Saturday and in Pickens on Sunday.
