South Carolina Football: 5 Citadel Bulldogs to Know

The South Carolina Gamecocks will play their annual instate FCS opponent when The Citadel Bulldogs come to Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 12. Game time is set for high noon.

The Gamecocks (8-2, 6-2 SEC) are ranked 14th in both national polls and come in 12th in this week’s BCS Standings. They will be facing a Citadel Bulldog team that is playing its final game of the season. The Bulldogs are 4-6 overall and finished the 2011 season with a 2-5 in the Southern Conference under seventh-year head coach Kevin Higgins.

Carolina leads the all-time series, 39-7-3, including a 13-4 mark at home. The teams have met just once since 1985, a 38-35 Citadel win in the 1990 season. The Gamecocks have won nine of the last 10 and 24 of the last 26 contests between the two schools.

Here are five Citadel players to know:

Ben Dupree, QB

He leads the triple-option offense.  He is 22-of-45 passing for 192 yards and zero touchdowns.  As you can see, he is not one to pass much but he can run.

On the ground, he has 159 rushes for 584 yards and eight touchdowns.  Look for him wearing the #2 jersey.

Darien Robinson, RB

He is the Bulldogs workhorse as he has rushed the ball 116 times for 774 yards and 8 touchdowns. So when you see the triple-option and the quarterback gives a toss, it is likely this guy catching that flip. He wears #45.

Brandon McCladdie, CB

McCladdie is their “lock down” corner as he has had two interceptions, to go with 41 tackles and two forced fumbles.  He wears #45.

Rod Harland, LB

Harland leads the Citadel defense with his 94 tackles, four sacks and 15 tackles for loss.  Expect him to be wherever the ball is.  He wears #11.

Tolu Akindele, LB

Akindele is a solid linebacker and has had 78 tackles on the year.   He wears #12.
