The South Carolina football recruiting process got a big boost Friday night as David Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) chose the Gamecocks over programs like Arizona State, Penn State and Miami during the second quarter of the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.
Williams, a running back, is the 20th commitment to the Gamecocks' 2013 class and one the Gamecocks desired at the RB spot. USC had been targeting him for most of the cycle as this young man was a 4-star recruit with a rating of 92 by 247Sports and ranked the No. 9 all-purpose back and No. 171 overall prospect in the country.
As a senior, Williams rushed for 1,904 yards and 23 touchdowns on 195 carries. The 6-foot-1, 205 lbs., prospect is solid and just the kind of back that fits well in the USC sysytem. He has breakaway speed yet can run between the tackles. He may prove to talented to keep off the field his freshman year.
