Sox Aren’t Able to Complete Sweep of Yanks

The Red Sox had won 3 games in a row against the Yankees and were looking for a sweep.  The Sox had Jon Lester on the mound vs. HIroki Kuroda for the Yankees.  Lester had a well pitched game, but Kuroda pitched just a little bit better.  The Sox did rally in the 9th and served Mariano Rivera another blown save, but they still fell to the Yanks in the bottom of the 9th.

Boston struck first when they scored a single run in the 2nd inning when Carp hit an RBI double to score Ortiz.  Sox 1-0.  Lester kept the Yankees off the scoreboard until the 4th inning when Lester gave up an RBI double to Mark Reynolds to score ARod.  Sox 1-1.  In the 5th the Yankees were able to take the lead when Cano hit an RBI double to score Stewart and Ichiro  Sox 1-3.  The Sox grabbed one of those runs back in the 6th when Salty hit an RBI groundout.  Sox 2-3.  Lester just kept on pitching and ended up pitching 8 strong innings, however he still left the mound in line for a loss.  Mariano Rivera took the mound in the 9th and the Sox had 3 outs to try to make a rally.  Mo ended up blowing the save when he faced the first batter of the inning.  Will Middlebrooks hit a HR to right to tie the game.  This is the 2nd time in this series that Mo has taken the mound and then blown the save.  The Sox weren't able to get the go ahead run in the inning, but they at least had a chance.  Brandon Workman took the mound in the bottom of the 9th, but was unable to keep the magic going.  Workman gave up a single to Ichiro, Ichiro stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a fly out.  With 2 outs, Ichiro came home for the walk off when Workman through a wild pitch to Salty.

It's a frustrating way to lose, but in the end the Sox still took 3 out of 4 games from the Yankees before heading down to face the Rays at the Trop.
