Sox Beat Astros When Astros Break Out in the 6th!

The Red Sox came back to Fenway to begin an 11 game homestand last night.  The Sox were facing off against the Houston Astros with Allen Webster on the mound.  Webster got the team down early, but the bats would have his back and he’d end up getting his 3rd win of the season.

Webster didn’t have his sharpest start in a Sox uniform, but he was able to keep the Sox in the game and give the bats enough time to stage a comeback.  It didn’t look pretty in the early innings though.  The Astros scored their first run in the 2nd inning when Fowler scored from 3rd by way of an error from Napoli at 1st.  The Astros grabbed another run in the 3rd when Webster gave up an RBI single to Grossman.  In the 4th the Astros went up 4-0 when Dominguez hit a 2 run homerun off of Webster.

The Sox finally got on the scoreboard and started their comeback in the bottom of the 4th.  Cespedes hit into a doubleplay, but Pedroia was still able to come in to score from 3rd.  Sox 1-4.  In the 6th inning is when the Sox bats broke out and not only tied the game, but took the lead.  Ortiz hit an RBI single to score Holt, Napoli hit an RBI single to score Pedroia and then Middlebrooks hit an RBI single to tie the game.  Sox 4-4.  The Astros went to their bullpen, but it didn’t seem to be the answer they were looking for.  Jackie Bradley Jr came to the plate with the bases loaded and the Astros Downs walked JBJ to give the Sox the lead.  Vazquez hit an RBI sac fly and then Pedroia hit a 2 run RBI ground rule double to have the Sox leading 8-4.  What an inning and it brought Fenway back to life.

Webster was done after 6 innings and now was in line for the win.  Alex Wilson came into the game in the 7th inning and while he got himself into trouble, he got himself right out of it.  Wilson had runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but no one would come home to score.  Wilson got a strikeout and then the inning ended when Altuve hit a flyout and then Nava made a gun of a throw to home plate and Vazquez tagged Marisnick who was trying to score from 3rd.  It was the play from the night and from the one outfielder who isn’t known for his arm.  Tazawa came out and pitched a scoreless 8th and then the Sox grabbed an additional run in the bottom of the inning when Holt hit an RBI single.  Sox 9-4.  Craig Breslow came out to take care of the 9th.  He gave up a leadoff single, but then was able to put down the next three batters in order.
