Today's series opener between the Sox and Rays lived up to the hype of being a pitchers duel. It was David Price for the Rays and Jon Lester for the Sox. Both pitched well enough to win, but the game would be decided in extra innings.
Lester looked great once again. Lester gave up his one and only run in the 3rd inning with a RBI double to Rodriguez. Sox 0-1. The Sox got Lester that run back in the 5th with a solo HR from David Ross. Sox 1-1. Lester pitched through the 7th inning and looked like that ace we need him to be. His pitching line for the night was 100 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB and 5 Ks.
Bailey came into the game in relief of Lester in the 8th and had himself a nice 1-2-3 inning. Hanrahan came into the game in the 9th and continued his struggles. Hanrahan walked Longoria on 4 pitches and then walked Zobrist. Farrell had seen enough and Hanrahan was out and Uehara was in. Uehara continued to show that he is probably the best pick up of the off season. Uehara worked some magic and got out of the inning without allowing the run to score.
The Sox weren't able to score in the bottom of the 9th and we were on to extra innings. Tazawa came into the game in the top of the 10th and pitched and scoreless inning. In the bottom of the 10th, Jacoby Ellsbury hit a single. With Victorino at the plate, Ellsbury stole second and when the ball went into centerfield he headed on to 3rd base. Victorino hit an RBI single and the Sox walked off for the first time in 2013!
There is something so awesomely special about a walk off win! Nice job boys!
