Sox Come Up Short Against Indians

The Red Sox just won 2 games against the Indians, but were unable to make it three in a row.  Jake Peavy took the mound and pitched a pretty decent outing, but got no real run support from the Sox offense.  The Indians were able to take the lead in the later innings and never looked back.

Jake Peavy has struggled some recently, so much of Red Sox Nation was nervous with his outing yesterday.  Peavy calmed a lot of people’s fears even if he wasn’t able to pitch the team and himself to a win.  The Sox took an early lead when David Ortiz hit an RBI double to score Bogaerts.  Sox 1-0.  The Indians tied it up in the 3rd when Bourn hit an RBI double.  Sox 1-1.  Peavy kept the game tied and pitched through the 6th inning.  Peavy is usually someone I expected to at least give up a few runs, so I thought his outing was definitely something that was a highlight of the day.

In the bottom of 6th inning the Sox took the lead when Gomes hit into what looked like it might be an inning ending double play, but he beat out the throw and Pedey was able to score from 3rd.  Sox 2-1.  The lead did not last for long though as Craig Breslow took the mound in the 7th.  The game was tied when Kipnis hit a grounder and Pedey made a bullet of a throw to Pierzynski, but he wasn’t able to hold on to the ball and the run scored.  The Indians took the lead when Tazawa came to the mound in the end of the inning and ended up walking a run in.  The frustrating thing was that most of the balls looked like strikes on the pitch zone.  The Indians still had the lead 3-2.  The Sox weren’t able to rally back and lost their first game of the series.

Red Sox 2  Indians 3  BOXSCORE
