The Red Sox made the first big move of the season by designating AJ Pierzynski for assignment and calling up AAA catcher Christian Vazquez. Pierzynski was signed to a 1 year deal this off season and his offense and defense just haven’t lived up to the expectation that the team and the fanbase had for him. With the Red Sox calling up Vazquez it looks like they are turning towards giving the future a chance to play as this season continues to slip away. Vazquez makes his first start at catcher tonight behind the dish for Rubby De La Rosa. Vazquez is ranked as the No. 10 Prospect in the Sox system and is well known for his accurate and speedy arm behind the plate.
I have never been a fan of AJ Pierzynski, so good riddance.
