Sox Drop First Game to O’s

The Red Sox took to Fenway on Tuesday to face the Orioles in hopes of knocking another game off their Magic Number and moving closer to the postseason.  Ryan Dempster was on the mound for the Sox verses Scott Feldman for the O's.  Dempster got out to an early lead, but he was unable to hold it.  The game was surprising ended with Uehara on the mound, giving up his first hit and run in over a month.

Dempster has been clinging to his spot in the rotation, but as the season draws to a close he should probably reintroduce himself to the bullpen and his friends there.  The Sox got on the board in the 1st inning when Dustin Pedroia hit a leadoff homerun to the Monster.  Sox 1-0.  The Sox added another run in the 4th when Xander Bogaerts hit a sac fly to score Salty.  Sox 2-0.  Let's not forget that Salty stole third in order to put that sac fly in play.  The Orioles got their first run of the night in the top of the 5th when Roberts hit a sac grounder to score Valencia.  Sox 2-1.  The game was tied in the 6th when Chris Davis hit his 51st homerun of the season.  Chris Davis has just been killing the ball this year.  Dempster was done after 6 innings and Brandon Workman took the mound in the 7th.  Workman pitched a scoreless 7th, but then got himself in trouble in the 8th.  Workman has runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs in the 8th when John Farrell went to get him in favor of Craig Breslow.  Breslow took the mound and statistics said that at least one run would score, but Breslow created some magic when he got the next 3 outs without allowing the runner to come home from 3rd.  In the top of the 9th Koji Uehara took the mound and for the first time in over a month, he actually looked human.  Koji not only gave up a hit, but he gave up a leadoff triple to Valencia.  Then Koji gave up a run when Wieters hit an RBI sac fly to score Casilla who was running for Valencia.  Sox 2-3.  The Orioles closer Jim Johnson took the mound in the bottom of the 9th and got his 46th save of the season.

The Rays also lost last night, so the magic number to clinch the AL East is now at 3.
