Sox Falter in Loss to Rangers

The Red Sox dropped the final game of the series and now head into New York under 500 again.  Beckett took the mound for the Sox and while his outing could be seen as a clear step in the right direction, it still was not good enough and was not what the Sox need from him at this point.

Beckett did not allow any runs in the first inning.  Given his 10+ ERA in the first inning, that is saying a lot.  Beckett looked pretty good until he got to his trouble inning which was the 4th inning last night.  Beckett gave up a leadoff double to start the inning.  Beckett gave up an RBI double to Murphy to give the Rangers their first run of the game.  The 2nd Rangers run which tied the game at the time was a sac suicide bunt from Gentry.  The go ahead run from the Rangers was a single from Kinsler that headed out to Cody Ross in the outfield.  Ross went into the slide to make the catch and it looked like he should have had the ball, however he clanked off his glove and the run scored.  The Sox were able to tie up the game, however Beckett allowed the go ahead run to score in the 7th on a wild pitch that allowed Andrus to score from 3rd.  Albers pitched the 8th and gave up a leadoff HR to Nelson Cruz to give the Rangers a 5-3 lead.

As for the offense, the Sox got their first run when Ellsbury walked and then got to 3rd base when Ciriaco hit a single.  Pedey ground into a double play, but the run scored.  The second run was in 4th when the local Texas boy Will Middlebrooks belted a HR in front of his family and friends.  The Sox would tie the game in the 6th 3-3 when Pedroia hit his 7th HR of the season.  Unfortunately, the Sox would not have a late inning rally in them and they would fall to the Rangers 5-3.
