The Red Sox have been on quite a roll lately and they continued it today with a win and a successful sweep of the Kansas City Royals. Jon Lester continued to show his dominance and why it should be priority number one for the Sox to not allow him to go to free agency. If the Sox can continue playing ball like this they might just have a chance at making a run at it.
The Red Sox got on the scoreboard in the 1st inning when Pedey hit an RBI grounder to score Holt from 3rd base. Sox 1-0. The bats got 2 more runs in the 3rd inning when Nava hit a ground rule double to score Ross and Bradley Jr. Sox 3-0. The Sox finished up their scoring in the 4th inning when David Ross hit a 2 run HR and the Nava hit a sac fly to bring JBJ home. Sox 6-0. It’s been nice to see the Red Sox offense consistently again.
While the Sox bats were going to town on the Royals starter, Jon Lester was continuing to dominate the Royals lineup. Lester didn’t allow a Royal to get to 3rd base until the 5th inning and he stranded him there. Lester was still on the mound in the 8th inning and the Royals had 9 runs to show for it. In the 8th Lester looked like he might be getting himself into trouble when he walked the leadoff batter, but that was soon erased when Stephen Drew made one of his spectacular plays to start a double play to erase that threat. Drew has been a disappointment at the plate, but nothing short of a miracle in the field. Lester was able to finish off the inning and his pitching line was 115 pitches, 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB and 8 Ks. The game was finished off when Tazawa got one out in the 9th and then handed the ball over to Mujica who got 2 quick outs to secure the victory.
