Sox Get Shut Out in Loss to Pirates

The Red Sox headed into Pittsburgh to play a series against the Pirates as the season winds down.  The Sox had rookie Anthony Ranaudo on the mound and he kept with his trend of giving up the long ball.  Ranaudo took his 3rd loss of the season while once again another team pitched a shutout against the Sox.

The Pirates first got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning when Ranaudo gave up a 2 run homerun to Russell Martin.  Ranaudo was able to keep it a 2 run deficit until the 6th inning when he gave up a solo homerun to Marte.  Sox 0-3.  Ranaudo would be done for the evening and Drake Britton took the mound to finish the inning.  Britton did his job and was able to get the 3rd out to end the inning.  Alex Wilson took the mound in the 7th and got 2 outs before giving up a hit to Harrison.  Wilson was out and Tommy Layne was in.  Layne ended up giving up the 4th and final run of the game when he gave up an RBI single to Snider.  Sox 0-4.

Koji Uehara took the mound in the 8th inning and while he gave up a leadoff double, he followed it by striking out the next 3 batters in order to end the inning without any more damage on the scoreboard.  The game was closed out when the Pirates closer and former Sox pitcher Mark Melancon took the mound and pitched a scoreless 9th.  The Sox and the Pirates both got 7 hits, however the Sox were never able to get any of their hits to turn into runs, so it ended up being a pretty easy win for the Pirates.
