The Red Sox just came off a dramatic win and most hoped it would be a spark to get the Sox going again. The Sox had Jake Peavy on the mound vs. Bud Norris for the O’s. Peavy gave up 3 homeruns during his outing and on the other side the Sox offense couldn’t get anything going against Norris. It was a pretty lackluster performance all around from the Sox.
Peavy started the game by giving up a solo HR to Adam Jones in the 1st inning. Peavy had a reputation of only giving up one homer per game, but last night he definitely didn’t live up to that stat. In the bottom of the 5th, Peavy gave up a 2 run HR to Markakis to have the O’s leading 3-0. Then in the 7th Peavy gave up his 3rd homerun of the game to Flaherty. Sox 0-4.
While Peavy wasn’t able to keep the ball in the yard, the offense was also a ghost. The Sox were only able to get 3 hits all night against Norris and were never able to turn hits into runs. The runs that Peavy gave up seemed insurmountable even when the game would normally be within reach. Norris pitched 8 shutout innings and then Tommy Hunter, fresh off the DL, came out and closed out the 9th.
