Sox Get Shutout by Yanks

The Red Sox lost the final game of the series to the Yankees after a good performance from Felix Doubront.  Doubront only allowed 2 runs to score, however Phil Hughes and the Yankees bullpen shutout the Sox bats to have the team fall 0-2.

Felix Doubront has struggled in the last few weeks, but tonight he looked like that guy we were used to seeing all season long on the mound.  Doubront kept the game scoreless until the 4th inning when he got himself into trouble.  Doubront ended up with the bases loaded and no outs.  Jones hit an RBI sac fly and the Yankees were leading 1-0.  Dubi got out of it without any more damage when Cano hit into a double play to end the inning.  Doubront kept on pitching until he got to the 7th inning.  He got one out, but then gave up a walk and a single.  Bobby V came out to get Doubront and replaced him with Tazawa.  Tazawa gave up an RBI bloop single to Jeter and the Yanks were leading 2-0.  Tazawa got two strikeouts to end the inning.  Breslow came on to pitch a scoreles 8th inning and Melancon pitched a scoreless 9th.

Unfortunately, the Sox bats weren’t able to make up for the 2 runs that Doubront gave up.  The lineup was usually weak anyways with Papi on the DL and Gonzo now gone, but it was even weaker with Pedroia out of the lineup.  Pedey missed the game to be with his family since his wife had his second child last night.  Congrats to the Pedroia family!

The Sox didn’t play the role of spoiler very well the last few days.  The Orioles have kept it tied a top the AL East, but haven’t been able to make any ground since we haven’t been able to do our part by beating NY.
