Sox Got Cooked By O’s

The Red Sox had another day where they were on their way to a win and instead ending up looking up at a loss by the time 9 innings were played. Aaron Cook was pitching gang busters until he fell apart and got chased off the mound.

Aaron Cook went from pitching a no hitter to being the losing pitcher in the span of an inning.  He started off cruising right along and that sinker ball of his was definitely working.  The game was scoreless until the 5th inning when the Sox gave Cook a 2-0 lead.  Ellsbury hit a ground rule double to score Podsednik and then Crawford hit a sac fly to score the second run.  Cook took the mound in the 6th still sporting a no hitter, however he would give that up when he gave up a single to J. Hardy.  Cook’s sinkerball was starting to get up into the zone and that is never a good thing.  McLouth hit an RBI single to score the O’s their first run.  Cook then got the double play ball he wanted, however he threw the ball into centerfield instead of to 2nd base.  Game tied.  Cook was finally cooked when Wieters hit a ground rule double to give the O’s the lead for good. Cook was out and Andrew Miller was in the game to face Chris Davis.  Miller got the out we needed and was headed for the dugout.  Tazawa was out and gave up an RBI double to give the O’s 2 more runs in the inning.  Sox 2-5.  Ugh.  Bobby V went with Breslow and he got the final out of the inning.  The Sox were able to get one run back in the top of the 7th when Crawford hit a sac fly to score Punto.  Sox 3-5.

The only other bit of news and drama is that in the 8th inning both Gonzalez and Bobby V got ejected.  Gonzo was barking at the home plate umpire and he had heard enough so he threw him from the game.  It seems as if Gonzo was complaining that the pitcher threw before he was set in the batter’s box.  Bobby V came out to bark at the ump for throwing Gonzo and got himself tossed as well.

The water is depressingly clean folks.
