Despite a rough start from Julian Tavarez the Boston Red Sox (54-35) still had a chance to win, but Kyle Snyder surrendered two runs in the sixth to the Toronto Blue Jays (44-45) who eventually won 6-5 despite a ninth inning rally by Boston.
First time All-Star outfielder Alex Rios turned in a 3-4 performance and hit in the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth off of Snyder while Jays starter Shaun Marcum (5-3) picked up the win going 6 innings, on seven hits, five runs, three earned, one walk, six strikeouts, and gave up one homerun.
Manny Ramirez started off the scoring with a two-run homerun that just got over the Green Monster off of Marcum giving the Red Sox an early 2-0 lead, but Tavarez did not look poised for a good start from the onset of the game.
Getting out of the second inning on a double-play ball, Tavarez, did not have the same luck in the third.
A wild pitch scored the first run for the Jays and then Tavarez’ inning self-imploded.
