The Red Sox are really struggling and hoped that Clay Buchholz could bring them to a much needed win. Unfortunately Buch continued his season of struggle and didn’t make it out of the 5th inning. The Sox got behind early and weren’t able to climb out of the hole that Buchholz put them in.
Buchholz pitched a scoreless first inning, but then it went down hill from there. Buch gave up a leadoff homerun to the buzzsaw that is Encarnacion. Buchholz also gave up an RBI single to Reyes to have the Jays up 2-0. In the 4th Buchholz gave up another homerun to Encarnacion, this time a 2 run shot. Encarnacion is just a beast at the plate right now. The Sox finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th when Shane Victorino hit a solo shot. Sox 1-4. Unfortunately Buchholz gave that run right back in the top of the 5th when he gave up an RBI single to Navarro. Sox 1-5. Buch was done for the night and it wasn’t pretty.
Chris Capuano was in the game to finish the 5th. He got out of the inning and pitched into the 7th inning. Capuano did give up a run in the 7th when he gave up an RBI single to Gose. Sox 1-6. Miller came into the 7th and got the final out to end the inning. Miller pitched a scoreless 8th and after a couple of struggle performances was back to looking like one of the most reliable relievers in the Sox pen. In the 8th the Sox gave the fans a glimmer of hope when they grabbed a few more runs to make this game competitive. Mike Carp and Xander Bogaerts both hit RBI doubles and then Brock Holt hit an RBI single to have the Sox only down by 2 runs. Sox 4-6. Koji Uehara came out in the 9th because once again he just needed some work since the Sox haven’t been in a save situation in a long time. The Sox came to bat in the 9th, but weren’t able to get anything going against the Jays closer Casey Janssen.
