Sox Lose Big on a Dreary Cold Night

Last night looked like a miserable day the park, but with the weather and with what was happening on the field.  The Sox lost 13-0 and it only took them 7 innings to do it.  Aceves took the mound for the Sox and reminded fans that they should be excited that John Lackey may be back in the rotation on Sunday.

Aceves took the mound on the cold and dreary night and had two scoreless innings before he added to the nightmare.  In the 3rd inning, Aceves just fell apart.  Here is how the 3rd inning went: walk, single, walk, walk (RBI), strikeout, single (2 RBI), balk, sac fly RBI, single (RBI), throwing error by Aceves, another balk and then an error by Middlebrooks.  By the end of all that, the Sox were in a 0-6 hole.  Aceves was reminding everyone and maybe himself why he isn't a consistent starter in the MLB.  In the 4th, Aceves came back out and ended up giving up a 2 run HR to Smith. Sox 8-0.  Farrell had seen enough and went to go get Aceves.

The only bright spot of all of this is that it meant that knuckleballer Steven Wright got to make his major league debut.  I am sure Wright had hoped his debut would be in a better situation, but it's his debut none the less.  Wright allowed runs to score, but he also ate up a bunch of innings and saved the bullpen going forward.  In the 5th, gave up a 2 run RBI double to Coco Crisp and then another 2 run single to Jaso.  Sox 12-0.  In the 6th, Reddick hit an RBI double to bring the lead for the A's up to 13-0.

As for the Sox offense, it was as cold as it was outside.  Colon was a strike throwing machine through 7 innings.  The Sox bats were only able to get 3 hits off of him and weren't able to get anyone to cross the path.

After 7 innings, they called for the tarp and after the required 30 minute rain delay the game was called.  This one was a miserable one.  Let's hope for a better day tomorrow.
