The Sox hoped that with Clay Buchholz on the mound that they would have a chance to stop this skid and get going in the wining direction again. Unfortunately, Buchholz didn’t have his best performance and he was up against Angels ace Jered Weaver.
Buchholz has been the best pitcher in the Sox rotation for well over a month, however yesterday just wasn’t his day. Buchholz gave up 2 runs in the 3rd inning with a single to Iannetta and then Trout ground into a double play, but Aybar scored from third. Sox 0-2. Buch gave up 2 more runs in the 4th inning to put the Sox in a 0-4 hole. Buchholz gave up an RBI single to Trumbo and and RBI single to Izturis. In the bottom of the 4th, the Sox bats battled back a little bit. The Sox scored their first run with an RBI double from Ryan Lavarnway. That was Lavarnway’s first RBI since being called up this year. The Sox got their second run with an RBI double from Mike Aviles. Sox 2-4.
However, troubles continued for the Sox in the 6th. Buchholz gave up a solo HR to Howard Kendrick. Sox 2-5. Buch gave up two more singles and he was out of the game and Tazawa was in. Buchholz just looked way too hittable all night long. He gave up 12 hits which is a season high for him. Tazawa got a K and then gave up a 2 run RBI to Torii Hunter. Sox 2-7. While all this was happening, Jered Weaver just kept trucking along. He seemed to have the Sox’s number. The Sox were only able to get one more run across the board and that wasn’t until the 8th when Weaver was out of the game. The Sox got their final run on a Cody Ross double and then Pedey scored on a throwing error from Hunter. Sox 3-7. That would be it though. Tazawa pitched scoreless 7th and 8th innings and then the 9th was a scoreless inning from Mark Melancon.
However the water is still clearly very clean. It’s like drinking water clean.
